Custom classics in Coventry

Among the 150 or so hand-crafted motorcycles on display at Stoneleigh in April, some were pretty obviously assembled in a shed, at weekends through the winter, using trial and error methods on a tight budget.

Other machines were no-expense-spared specials, constructed from scratch in fully equipped workshops by top-line professionals to showcase their services.

Yet some of the classics, café racers, customs, bobbers and flat-trackers defied any attempt to put them into either category.

You couldn’t tell if they were created by an amateur enthusiast or an enthusiastic expert, such was the quality of workmanship and engineering skill.
