Held in the Winter Gardens from May 15-19, admission for adults was modest at half a crown (12½p).
On the Saturday Alf Hagon (649cc Hagon-Triumph) won the 750cc class at the Blackpool Sprint, while the marginally slower George Brown’s misfiring 998cc Vincent took the 1000cc solo class and LS Bolton (996cc LSB Special Mk 111) was king of the charioteers. Cycle races, a Sunday Service led by the Reverend Bill Shergold and more filled the five day programme.
After many attempts, London born Yorkshire resident 24-year-old Arthur Lampkin (pictured) rode his 249cc BSA to SSDT victory by a handsome margin from the 18-year-old Mick Andrews (347cc AJS); Lampkin seven, Andrews 20. Rated as one of the toughest SSDTs in recent years, there were 60 retirements, compared with 31 the previous year.
