For approaching half a century, father and son Henri and Michel Gagnaire have been collecting Monet et Goyon motorcycles.
And 12 years ago, when their collection outgrew their homes, they did the obvious thing – open a museum dedicated to the marque, one of France’s ‘big four’ motorcycle manufacturers between the 1920s and the 1950s.
Situated just off the main square in the picturesque town of Melle, in western France, is the museum which houses the Gagnaire collection. It comprises 90 motorcycles and other vehicles. Of those, 63 have been restored to working condition and about 40 are on display at any one time.
