I note with interest your feature on the BSA Dandy (TCM, August 2019) and the points issue.
Working for a BSA dealer in Nottinghamshire, a Dandy was not giving the service expected, and it was noted the timing side bearing was a sealed dry bearing, with the oil seal between the bearing and flywheel.
This was changed, putting the bearing next to the flywheel to give it crankcase oil lube.
The oil seal is/was now between the bearing and magneto and the machine did many years’ service.
