The International Classic MotorCycle Show | 26-27 April

After the phenomenal success of Bonhams’ January Online Sale – which roared past expectations, achieving £500,000 and an industry-leading 97% sell-through rate – the Bonhams Motorcycle Team is now throttling forward toward the highly-anticipated Spring Stafford Sale. With an outstanding lineup of motorcycles spanning more than a century of two-wheeled innovation, this auction promises to be a highlight of the season. Among the early consignments are an ultra-rare 1902 Andru 225cc (Estimate: £8,000 – 12,000) and a cutting-edge 2013 Ducati Multistrada V2 Pikes Peak (£6,000 – 8,000), showcasing the evolution of motorcycle engineering from Veteran pioneers to modern marvels.
Bonhams is the go-to auction house for significant single-owner collections, and this year’s Stafford Sale is no exception. The first four private collections have just been announced, including:

The Andy Chapman Collection Part II
Following the triumphant sale of Part I at the 2024 Autumn Stafford Sale, Bonhams is thrilled to present the next instalment – 16 extraordinary machines that celebrate the pinnacle of their era. The collection features iconic British, Italian, and Japanese multi-cylinder masterpieces from the 1970s and ‘80s, dripping in bold colours and undeniable charisma.
Some standout machines include:

The Green House Farm Collection
Pioneer and veteran motorcycles from the early 1900s played a pivotal role in shaping motorcycling history, marking the transition from bicycles to motorised transport. These early machines drove innovation in engineering and design, laying the foundation for motorsport, including legendary events like the Isle of Man TT.
The Green House Farm Collection showcases an exceptional selection of Pioneer motorcycles, which are eligible for two of the UK’s most prestigious vintage motorcycle events: the Bonhams-sponsored Sunbeam Motorcycle Club’s Pioneer Run and the Vintage Motor Cycle Club’s Banbury Run.
Highlights include:
•The 1914 Triumph 550cc Motorcycle Combination (£10,000 – 12,000) with period wicker Gloria sidecar, umbrella and accessories, formerly displayed in the famous Murray Motorcycle Museum on the Isle of Man, purchased by the private owner with the assistance of the late David Earnshaw, VMCC multi-marque specialists and lifelong veteran and vintage motorcycle enthusiast.
• An exceedingly rare 1902 Andru 225cc (£8,000 – 12,000). From the Parisian manufacturer Andru, a sub-brand of Aiglon, known for producing bicycles and bicycle components.

The Barry Winter Collection
Barry Winter was born with Castrol in his blood, a true biker from the days when he wore short trousers in the ’50s, racing around his friend’s field on any old bike they could get running. His father supported his “wild behaviour” having ridden his 1929 Sunbeam Model 9 at Brooklands in the ’30s, as well as participating in trials with the North Berks MCC. His father supported his “wild behaviour” having ridden his 1929 Sunbeam Model 9 at Brooklands in the ’30s, as well as participating in trials with the North Berks MCC. Over the years, Barry has had the pleasure of owning countless incredible machines, but his desire for a Brough Superior remained strong, though finances kept it out of reach for many years. In 2015, after an unsuccessful trip to a Bonhams auction, Barry crossed paths with renowned collector Bill Faulkner, from whom he bought his magnificent 1932 Brough Superior Overhead 680 (£60,000 and £80,000). The 680 was later featured in the Brough Superior Owners Club Newsletter in 2018, in an article titled ‘The Rescue of 1932 Overhead 680 TV 6563.’ Ownership of the 680 deepened Barry’s interest for the Nottingham marque, leading him to acquire his striking 1936 Brough Superior 982cc ‘MX’ SS80 (£30,000 – 40,000), that has accompanied Barry on many memorable rides. Other notable machines in his collection include:
• 1948 Ariel 995CC 4G Square Four featured in Classic Bike’s 2012 Classic Bike of the Year (£6,000 – 9,000)
• 1955 BSA 600CC ‘Gold Star’ Replica which goes like the clappers! (£5,000 – 7,000)
In addition to these remarkable single-owner collections, The Spring Stafford Sale will set the stage for the sale of several exceptionally rare and significant headline motorcycles with unparalleled racing pedigree:

A legendary superbike of motorcycling’s between-the-wars ‘Golden Age’, Brough Superior – ‘The Rolls-Royce of Motorcycles’ – was synonymous with high performance, engineering excellence and quality of finish.
The 1925 Brough Superior SS100 consigned is a machine of exceptional provenance, historic significance, and originality. One of only 12 original SS100s from 1925 known to survive, it retains its matching frame, engine and gearbox numbers and boasts a rich racing history.
Delivered on 27th March 1925, the SS100 was specially prepared at the factory for competition use, including a unique all-petrol fuel tank and a separate oil tank beneath the saddle, a pioneering feature later adopted by the Alpine Grand Sports model.
Dispatched to Sam Wallace, Brough Superior’s Irish agent, it was intended for Bob Matthews, a renowned Irish racer. Known as the ‘Bangor Boat’ due to his size, Matthews campaigned the SS100 successfully, including a 2nd place finish in the 1927 Ulster Grand Prix. This SS100 is a superb example of early Brough Superior engineering, with factory competition tuning and remarkable originality. Its evocative history and long-term ownership make it an unmissable opportunity.
Ex-Robert Matthews, T.E. Oliver, 2nd Place in the 1927 Ulster Grand Prix, Single Family Ownership Since 1972, 1 of 12 known survivors, 1925 Brough Superior 981cc SS100
Brough Superior SS100’s make history at Stafford
The sale of this significant SS100 coincides with a record-breaking collection of Brough Superior SS100s set to headline at Stafford. The world’s largest public display of Brough Superior SS100s will make motorcycle history at The International Classic MotorCycle Show, on April 26-27, 2025. In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Brough Superior SS100, the Stafford show will feature a truly unique display of 25 SS100s, showcasing some of the rarest and most iconic Broughs ever made, all brought together for the first time.
The ex-Jim Kentish; Brooklands Gold Star-winning, 1937 Vincent-HRD 998cc Rapide Series-A (£180,000 – 240,000), one of just circa 78 manufactured, this all matching numbers example benefits from single family ownership (father/son) since 1961. Around 50 Series-A Vincent Rapides survive worldwide today, and for one to be offered for sale is an event of exceptional importance. All the more so in the case of the example offered here, the 21st off the production line, which earned first owner Jim Kentish a coveted Brooklands Gold Star – awarded for a 100mph-plus lap of the Surrey circuit – in 1938. It is the only 1,000 Vincent to have ever achieved a Gold Star.
