I was very interested in your Egli-Vincents article, and the heading ‘The same but different’ was appropriate.
It is also appropriate to my Egli-Vincents as I have a single (Egli-Vincent Comet Special) and a twin (Egli-Vincent Godet Sport GT) and my two are also very different from Jeff Vallat’s. Both are out and out touring bikes.
Actually The Classic MotorCycle knows all about my twin, as it was tested at length by Alan Cathcart and written up in your December 2004 edition.
It has, however, changed a little since then, as it now has custom made (clip-on) handlebars, some 10 inches higher than the original, and a custom made carrier that can incorporate a sub frame for a tow-hitch.
Pictures of the bike (and trailer) and of Fritz Egli, and my late great friend Patrick Godet appear in Phillippe Guyony’s book ‘Vincent Motorcycles – The Untold Story since 1946’ on page 253. This was Patrick’s show bike at Stafford and was his first GT.
