Alpine star! 2500 miles on an MZ Trophy

Back in the 1960s and 70s, my wife and I had an MZ ES250 Trophy that we regularly overloaded with camping gear to take part in rallies and other such events – but one rally I never got round to doing was the Stella Alpina in Italy.

Having bought another MZ Trophy, I was delighted to discover that the Stella was still being run, and that 2015 would mark its 50th anniversary.

When I told my wife about it this time, she said: “You’re not getting me into a tent!” So, undaunted by all the negative feedback from friends and family, I set off alone from Derbyshire to Dover on Sunday, July 5.
