Inspired by your magazine, I’ve been itching to do a winter project for a while now and back in October 2015 this old Blade sort of fell into my lap.

It had suffered an accident on a track day, the plastics had been smashed and bodged with filler and sprayed with rattle can black. However as it had been laid up for almost 10 years, underneath it was excellent. The chap I bought it off had owned it since 1996, it had been garaged all its life so no corrosion and a great basis for a straightforward restoration.
So over last winter I’ve lightly restored it while trying to keep the specification as factory as possible.
To keep the costs down I used Chinese replica fairings and I was pleasantly surprised about the quality. I had the wheels, tank and exhaust professionally painted; the trickiest job was rebuilding the clocks as the rear case had been smashed in the accident. I’ve also done a myriad of minor detail jobs to make it look as original as possible. Best result though is having this in my garage all in for around £2000!
I’ve now ridden 2000 trouble free miles since the rebuild; I can’t believe how good these bikes are to ride considering they’re coming up for 25 years old.
