Nick Mowbray, exhibition manager, said: “Whether it’s increased exposure on TV through, among others, the Motorbike Show, or classy advertising campaigns, classic bikes are in vogue right now and they are being bought and sold in big numbers.”

Charterhouse has already confirmed some of the lots which will go to auction, including a 1961 Velocette Venom and a 1987 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail Trike. The cut-off point for consignments to the Bristol show auction is January 20. There’s an entry fee of £60 plus VAT per motorcycle, which this includes photographs for the website and catalogue etc. If the motorcycle sells, there’s than a six per cent (plus VAT) commission payable on the hammer price, though Charterhouse are prepared to negotiate with those interested in consigning collections.

To enter a classic car or motorcycle into these specialist auctions, contact Matthew Whitney ASFAV at Charterhouse, The Long Street Salerooms, Sherborne DT9 3BS 01935 812277 or via email [email protected]
