The objective of the series is to create and maintain a level playing field for those wishing to race genuine Period 1 (up to 1964) Group 1 machines (and faithful replicas) without encountering unfair competition from machines bearing post-period modifications and developments. This is with the intention of recreating as far as possible the sight, sounds, and spirit of Grand Prix racing in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s for both rider and spectator alike.
As in previous years BBHGP will be run concurrently with the long running Lansdowne Cup Championship which will continue to use a handicap system based on machine originality. The Lansdowne Cup is to be renamed WRR Lansdowne Cup, in memory of Roy Richards, founder of the National Motorcycle Museum which is one of the series sponsors.
The series enjoys the support of four sponsors, the National Motorcycle Museum, Bonhams, The Classic MotorCycle, and Avon tyres. Dates are still being confirmed but it is expected the series will run at Oulton Park, Thruxton, Brands Hatch GP, Pembrey, Snetterton and Cadwell Park. The host organisations will be BMCRC, British Historic Racing and the Classic Racing Motorcycle Club.
