RACER, RESTORER AND REPLICA builder George Beale has joined the ranks of experts at classic and vintage motorcycle and car auctioneers Charterhouse.
“Contrary to common belief, George has not retired but has joined us,” said Charterhouse’s Matthew Whitney. “He has a lifetime of experience, during which time he has consigned five of the top 25 motorcycles auctioned in the world for clients and holds the highest price for a client’s Brough Superior SS100 sold at auction.”
George has always been a competitor, whether on two wheels or four. His sporting career started in 1965, when he competed in motorcycle trials and scrambles, and continues today – he was a class winner in the 2018 Gordon Bennett Classic Car Rally.
In between, he started restoring and collecting motorcycles in 1970, became a Yamaha dealer from 1976-81, owned Europe’s biggest private motorcycle racing team from 1978-81, competed in the legendary Mille Miglia in 2010 and was sales director at H&H Classic Auctions 2005-18.
He has built a range of classic racing replicas including Matchless G50s, seven AJS 7r replicas, a number of Benelli fours and half-a-dozen six-cylinder RC174 Honda racers. Honda bought one despite the eye-watering £400,000 price tag.
Charterhouse are now accepting entries for their busy programme of specialist auctions, with classic and vintage motorcycles at The Haynes International Motor Museum on Wednesday May 6; classic cars at The Royal Bath & West Showground on Sunday, June 21and the Isle of Man Classic TT auction on August 30.
