For a few brief hours on this particular Saturday the village hall was crammed with motorcycle parts, sellers and buyers attending the annual jumble organised by the local VMCC Men of Kent Section.
With dry weather, there were also plenty of takers for the outside pitches and here was an even bigger assortment, offering everything from widgets to wheels and bolts to bikes. In the centre of this was the visitors’ motorcycle park and it soon filled with an interesting variety of machinery, old and occasionally very old.
Many of those present had used the event as an excuse for a ride. Among them was Terry Soan on a solo 1948 BSA M33, the last year that girder forks were an option on this half-litre sidecar lugger. Nearby, Rob Caldwell had used meandering back roads from home in Deal on a 1952 Ariel VH500. Rob reports: “The bike has been reliable and very enjoyable.”
There was a purpose to the day as well as all the proceeds were given to the Kent Air Ambulance and the total raised was an impressive £655.34.
