• In other news, co-founder of Bimota and designer of the Ducati 916 Massimo Tamburini has died, aged 70. Tamburini formed Bimota in 1973 with Valerio Bianchi and Giuseppe Morri – they took the first two letters of each of their surnames for their marque’s name. Tamburini left Bimota in 1983, then joined the Cagiva group in 1985, where he designed a range of machines, from the 750cc Paso to the 916. He then moved to MV Agusta which was fitting, as it was reputedly seeing Giacomo Agostini racing in the 1960s which inspired Tamburini to a career in motorcycling.
