ISDT Run 2012

Weather didn’t put too many people off

Thanks to the weather, which at times resembled a monsoon, a slightly reduced number of participants left Hayes Garden World in Ambleside, Cumbria on Friday August 17 to tackle a route taking in many famous Cumbrian passes.

Unlike in 1913, for the inaugural ISDT, these days most of the route is Tarmac though for those who fancied there was a bit of off-road going to add an ISDT flavour to the run. Bikes tackling the likes of Kirkstone and Honister passes before the lunch stop at the Ratty Arms in Ravenglass and Hardknott and Wrynose passes on the way back to Ambleside after lunch were a good mix of classic on and off-road machines. The odd famous name was tucked into the entry list too with Arthur Lampkin and Blackie Holden enjoying their regular dose of Cumbrian ‘sunshine.’

Look forward to next year as the ISDT centenary will be on us and surely the Kendal Classic MCC Ltd won’t let that go by without a nod.
