The business began when Rugeley, Staffs, based interior designer John Simmonds doodled a few sketches around how he’d like his 900SS to look. He set about stripping down his standard model intent on shedding a lot of weight by virtue of removing all unnecessary brackets etc. Then, with the help of local fabricator Neil Adams – whose principal business, Made in Metal, fabricates high class steel staircases, balustrades etc – new parts were made, existing parts altered, the ribs in the fuel tank for example, being rounded out and reshaped until looked like it does now – that’s the white one in the photograph, called the SD-01.
Neil had not seen the finished article before he was offered a ride. He says: “I was previously into fast sports bikes, until I rode the V-twin and was hooked.” Neil and John immediately set about building a second version – the silver SD-02 – for Neil.
