Domiracer fired up

Chris’s bike is as near as anyone will get to the rare racing machine, as the project was wound up shortly after the original bike finished third in the 1961 Senior TT behind Mike Hailwood and Bob McIntyre who were on highly tuned race-bred Manx Nortons.

The original Domiracer, developed from the road-going 500cc Dominator, was produced by Norton Motorcycles engineer Doug Hele specifically for the 1961 Isle of Man TT. Australian rider Tom Phillis rode the original in the eventful race, but the company inexplicably wrapped the project up the following year and the Domiracer bits were sold on.

Chris will be firing up the bike again this afternoon at 14.30, and twice tomorrow on the Sunday, at 11.30 and 14.30.
