Super rare Vincent Black Lightning to lead Spring Stafford Sale

The fourteenth production Vincent Black Lightning will be auctioned at the Spring Stafford Sale later in the year.

Bonhams|Cars will auction the 14th production Vincent Black Lightning at its Spring Stafford Sale during the International Classic MotorCycle Show on April 21.

One of only 34 machines built, the Black Lightning is a rare beast and its not often one is sold publicly. The sale of this ‘Polish Lightning’ is estimated at £120,000 – 150,000.

It was ‘Rollie’ Free’s capture of the ‘world’s fastest production motorcycle’ record in 1948 on a tuned Series-B Black Shadow that led directly to Vincent marketed the Black Lightning as a racer of similar specification to the tuned Series-B Black Shadow Rollie Free rode to the world’s fastest production motorcycle record in 1948.

The machine on offer is one of two specially built for sidecar racing. Supplied new to Poland, it was raced by Tomasz Kamiński, before returning to the UK in 1972. It has been in present ownership since 1976, was professionally restored circa 1999/2000 and has sat unused since.

Also at The Spring Stafford Sale, one of only three 1959 Benelli 250cc Grand Prix Racing Motorcycles, estimated at £60,000 – 80,000.
